Creating these documents

January 16, 2024 - Reading time: ~1 minute

I use a collection of Open Source tools and applications to convert these yellowed Pulp Magazine scans into cleanly rendered PDF files. Here they are:

  • Linux Mint - Operating system.
  • Tesseract - Optical Character Recognition (OCR).
  • Libre Office Writer - proofreading, editing, and so much more.
  • OOoFBTools - A Writer plugin that joins lines, removes hyphens, etc.
  • GThumb - For cropping the illustrations from the scan.
  • ImageMagick - Convert the illustrations to monochrome (B/W).

It is amazing how much you can accomplish with free and open source software!

About

Primarily about posting the recent additions to the Pulpgen Archive with links to the downloads and a date stamp. Special thanks to the scanners and proofers that help keep the Pulpgen mission alive!
